Ingredients

  • 2-3 lbs Flanken Style Short Ribs
  • 1 can of Coke or Dr. Pepper
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup of red wine
  • Seasoning of choice
  • 2 Tbsp vegetable oil
  • 2 Tbsp flour

Equipment

  • Gravy separator (optional but makes things easier)
  • Slow cooker or dutch oven

Directions

  1. Season ribs as per your ancestors
  2. Pour oil in skillet on high heat, brown each side in batches and place in slow cooker
  3. Deglaze skillet with wine, scrape up bits and pour in slow cooker
  4. Pour soda and soy sauce in slow cooker
  5. Cook for 3-4 hr on HIGH
  6. Remove ribs (should be falling off the bone)
  7. Pour liquid into gravy separator, keep 2 tbsp of fat
  8. Make roux with fat and flour, pour in separated liquid
    • Serve with rice, mashed potatoes or grits
